Henry McGregor Sias is a Michigan-born lawyer who, in 2017, became the first transgender candidate to run for office in the city Philadelphia. Seeking the position of Judge of the Court of Common Pleas, Sias would make history as the first transgender male judge in the country if elected. Over the last six weeks of his campaign, Sias made efforts to increase his name recognition and funding. Despite his best efforts, Sias did not win the primary election on May 16. Nevertheless, he did manage to garner a lot of support across the city (notably from politician Ed Rendell, Representative Brian Simms, Liberty City Democrats, etc.) and succeeded in raising immense awareness for the transgender community.
